The New Ushoran Model From Warhammer Is Identical To Elden Ring
The first two words of their name—Flesh Eater Courts—have always been true to Warhammer Age of Sigmar, while the last one is less true. With the impending range refresh, however, all of that will change when figures portraying ghastly judges wearing crusty wigs will enter the fray. But of all the models, Ushoran the Bold is the one that really jumps out to me.
A Mortarch, one of Nagash’s most dependable generals, is this eerie man. Despite his numerous titles—he is referred to as the Sumeros Summerking, the First Exemplar, the Lord of Masques, and the Sombre Paladin throughout the realms—he is only ever a FromSoftware boss in my opinion.
His crown of bones that protrudes straight from his skull is deliciously Soulsian, as is the cloak stuffed with the severed, decomposing skulls of his enemies. However, it’s the bent back and weak arms that make the plastic figure feel almost exactly like a FromSoftware character.
It’s giving Margit, and the parallels don’t end there, with the backstory of Age of Sigmar being almost as complicated as that of Elden Ring. I’m eager to see what the Adeptus Convertorium members do with this model. The fact that almost every head and weapon swap may entirely alter the character while maintaining the overall vibe of this powerful monster is a credit to the creation of this formidable beast. I’ve already seen someone make up a version of Total Warhammer’s Nakai, The Wanderer, utilizing Seraphon components.
Note: A common belief is that the Flesh Eater Courts are an AoS incarnation of the fallen Bretons.
Though it is quite tempting to adopt the Lizardman idea, I’m still not sure what I’ll do with him. Maybe, though, I’ll go full Elden Ring and make a blazing yellow knife in one hand and a big oaken staff for him to hold. A lot of modeling work will be needed for the head, but I’m more comfortable with Green Stuff than painting a strange blade. Although Morgott’s weaponry appear to be more challenging to model, The Fell Omen’s army would be just as terrible.
If I were to build an Elden Ring army, I might use the Old World Bretonnians for Tree Sentinels or the Sylvaneth range for Erdtree Avatars, though the latter won’t be up to scale, so I might just leave them alone. Modeling a Warhammer Fire Giant would be a lot of fun, especially since I’ve been itching to acquire a Mega Gargant.
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Excellent Elden Ring miniatures already exist, even though they are not produced by Games Workshop. Perhaps I should use my imagination and create something original. And no, before you ask, I’m not into that kind of life, so I won’t create it out of the box.
Ushoran, after Katakros, Arkhan, Mannfred, Neferata, and Lady Olynder, is the sixth Mortarch of Nagash to come to pass in Age of Sigmar. This is a formidable force, and there will be consequences if, upon the addition of the final three, we are unable to deploy them all in a way reminiscent of the Phoenix Lords.
But Ushoran has increased my excitement for the final three characters considerably. The anticipated characters include a vampire akin to W’soran, a legendary headhunter akin to Abhorash (a model of him trapped in an unending battle with Gilles le Breton would be fantastic), and characters returning from The End Times such as Vlad von Carstein and Krell. If we’re sticking with historical figures, Luthor Harkon would get my choice. Don’t talk to me if you don’t want to see Ushoran’s version of the Pirate King of the Vampire Coast.
This is all sort of tangential, but Ushoran’s soulful, evocative model has me thrilled about the possibility of an army of Death—something that has never been done before. Not even a spooky zombie wearing a wig made of bones for a judge could pull that off.
